The official DPKO Training Recognition confirms that the particular pre-deployment course conforms to the relevant UN Peacekeeping Pre-Deployment Training (PDT) and includes the appropriate use of Core Pre-deployment Training Materials (CPTM) and relevant Specialised Training Materials for Staff Officers (STM).
- This official training recognition of UNSOC is the formal acknowledgement by DPKO that the UNSOC content, including course objective and learning outcomes, is consistent with the latest UN Peacekeeping Standards, says Colonel Thomas Karlsson, director Swedish Armed Forces International Centre, SWEDINT. He concludes:
- We are very pleased to have received this recognition!
SWEDINT has a long tradition and are well established on the international arena. Sweden has taken an active part in peace supporting missions since 1948 and formed the Training Centre for Peace Support Operations (PSO) in 1961.
- Our UNSOC course prepares participants and gives good comprehension on how UN Peacekeeping Operations are conducted and how to handle situations as a staff officer in such operations, says Major Håkan Larsson, Course Director UNSOC at SWEDINT.
Approximately 9000 staff officers, junior officers, police, Red Cross delegates, observers at elections, rescue personnel and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) amongst others, from more than 125 countries has so far been trained and educated at SWEDINT. About 45-50 NATO/PfP-, UN- and other courses will be conducted during 2010, with around 800-900 students from armed forces, police majority NGOs and Governmental Organizations, are expected to participate.
