Veterans’ Day is an opportunity to honour the Swedish veterans and pay tribute to those who lost their lives while aspiring to achieve peace in various conflicts around the world.

”Veterans’ Day is for everyone that has served or is serving in peace-promoting missions”, says project manager Martin Engdahl, who is responsible for Veterans’ Day in the Swedish Armed Forces.

This year, particular attention will be given to the veterans who took part in the UN mission in Cyprus, Unicyp, in 1964-1993. During these 29 years, Sweden contributed with 25 000 soldiers. Since 2018, the Swedish Police has a deployed force in Cyprus.

”The Cyprus mission is special to many Swedes since we have sent such a large number of personnel there over the years. It is important that we get a chance to pay tribute to the Cyprus veterans’ properly”, says Martin Engdahl.

Veterans’ Day is open to everyone and will be broadcast live on the Swedish Armed Forces Youtube channel, starting at 08.00 a.m.
